Volunteer with the Peel LGBTQ Center!

Applications are now open for Spring 2023 LGBTQ Center Assistants and LGBTQ Student Panelists

Are you interested in getting more involved with the Peel LGBTQ Center? Would you like to gain valuable experience in leadership development, team building, public speaking, and peer education? All of these skills are part of the vision we have for students who serve as LGBTQ Center Assistants and LGBTQ Student Panelists.

Student involvement in the Peel LGBTQ Center brings life to our center and is critical to our success. Applications are now open for Spring 2023 LGBTQ Center Assistants and LGBTQ Student Panelists. Training is provided for both programs. The application deadline is November 13.

LGBTQ Center Assistants

The Peel LGBTQ Center Assistants play a vital role in the daily operation of the Center by staffing the front desk, welcoming visitors, answering phone calls, and fielding requests for information, support, and campus resources. Staff members are asked to commit to a weekly schedule of 2-6 hours, as well as attend monthly staff meetings addressing professional development and ongoing operational issues. A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 is required for this position. Interviews will be conducted in November and mandatory Center Assistant training will be held in January prior to the start of classes. Apply here.

LGBTQ Student Panelists

LGBTQ Student Panel volunteers help to facilitate dialogue and create opportunities for understanding. The panel’s focus is on the experiences of gender and sexual minorities, diversity and inclusion, and the importance of ally advocacy. Each panel consists of three to five students who are willing to share their experiences as members of the LGBTQ community in a respectful and supportive environment. Panels are available for classrooms, clubs, organizations, and residence halls, as well as Safe Zone and Pirate Ally training. A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 is required for this position. Interviews will be conducted in November and mandatory panel training will be held at the start of the Spring 2023. Apply here.
